We beauty-geeked out this week! Our convo with Chandler Burr was nearly an hour long, so we edited it down to give you the highlights—and there were many. The biggest news: He's working on a perfume called You Or Someone Like You (named for his book) with perfumer Caroline Sabass at Givaudan. We definitely want to have him back on the show again when the perfume launches in late 2016.
Jess recently appeared at The Asia Society's K-Beauty Show, a panel discussion on the world of Korean beauty products (see video below). She shared what she learned and we discussed how we're a bit freaked out by the way K-beauty seems to encourage women to strive for unattainable beauty goals (uh, 12-year-old baby skin). Case in point: Etude House's Golden Ratio powder, which is no longer available (although the company still makes Golden Ratio Face Glam).
This Goop article inspired us to talked about "intentionally charged" beauty products from brands like Shiva Rose, De Mamiel, Sodashi, and Soli Davis, the facialist Jess would "follow of a bridge."
For our new segment on gross stuff—which needs a name, send us suggestions here—we stepped into the world of Dr. Pimple Popper and watched this blackhead removal video. (To spare those of you who are totally freaked out by pimple porn, we're not imbedding the video in this blog post. You're welcome.)
Here are the brands and products that were mentioned during the episode: Peach & Lilly, the online source for all things K-beauty; Too Cool For School's Dinoplatz makeup line; the perfumes Quartz by Molyneux and Osmanthe Yunnan by Hermès; and The Art Of Scent 1889-2012 Exhibition Catalogue, Chandler's amazeballs "perfume compendium" from Lucky Scent that features fragrances such as Drakkar Noir by perfumer Pierre Wargnye, Angel by perfumers Olivier Cresp and Yves de Chirin, and Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue by perfumer Olivier Cresp.
